Dubai Watch Week has come and gone, but with so many great watches showcased and debuted, it’s worth taking another look back at one of the biggest events in watches of the year. This year’s DWW in many ways felt like the biggest one yet, with many watchmakers notably unveiling special edition models with the event’s lead sponsor and the largest horological retailer in the middle east, Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons.
Of these watchmakers, few caught so much attention as the independent creator Ressence, which used its signature avant-garde style as a canvas for a novel limited edition, inspired by the region and produced exclusively for Seddiqi. The watch, called the Ressence Type 1 Slim DX2, uses the brand’s Type 1 Slim design as the base for its creativity, applying to it a sand-colored mosaic dial. It follows up on the previous limited edition Ressence developed in collaboration with Seddiqi, the Type 1 DXB Dubai Edition. The new model features a similar colorway and geometric style to offer collectors something superbly uncommon both from the brand and within the market at large.
A closer look at the new Ressence Type 1 DX2 showcases a watch that feels refined and authentic— seamlessly merging the watchmaker’s creative mechanical work with an aesthetic which feels true to both the brand and its collaborative partner, Seddiqi. In this regard, like the original Type 1 Slim, the DX2 uses a grade 5 titanium case, slim on the wrist at 11mm but with comfortably prominent wear on the wrist via its 41mm diameter. As is a signature of Ressence, the case opts for a crown-less aesthetic, with the time and winding mechanism found integrated within the case back, in-turn allowing for better ergonomic ease of wear on either the left or right wrist.
While the case is impressive, the star of the watch is undoubtedly its dial, which opts for a super cool geometric patten. The display is protected under anti-reflective, double-domed sapphire, executed using convex German silver coated with a sand colored PVD (physical vapor deposition). Vibrant and enlightening in its looks and color, timekeeping is intuitive via the DX2’s use of three eccentric biaxial satellites, each slightly angled for ease of reading. These, and the watch’s other engraved indications, are filled with white Super-LumiNova for quick timekeeping in all lighting conditions.
The DX2’s manner of timekeeping uses the same Ressence Orbital Convex System (ROCS) which the brand has implemented since its launch, with the various rotating discs for its timekeeping enlarged via a neutral oil. The system is made possible via Ressence’s innovative modulation of an ETA 2892 base caliber, with the automatic ROCS 1 caliber resulting and allowing for the watch’s state-of-the-art, revolutionary style and wear. The new Ressence Type 1 DX2 is limited to 25 total editions, each available exclusively through Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons or Ressence directly. Pricing is currently marked at CHF 22,500, or just below USD 24,500.
