Panerai at Watches & Wonders 2022

Meet the QuarantaQuattro – Four watches that discover new depths

Watches & Wonders’ highly anticipated 2022 Geneva showcase was able to occur in-person this year for the first time in two years and inaugurated the largest watchmaking salon ever held in Geneva.
From A. (Lange & Söhne) to Z(enith), the watchmakers invited to this year’s show didn’t hold back when it came to unveiling the chronological creations conceptualized during the industry’s downtime. However, one watchmaker exceptionally stood out with their iconic collection of dive watches.

Panerai revealed a cornucopia of tastemaker’s timepieces at this year’s show. The watchmaker’s Submersible eSteel QuarantaQuattro Collection comprises a host of novelty watches, sure to capture the hearts and wallets of curious horologist collectors. The Florentine watchmaker also revealed a new timepiece that celebrates their partnership with the Italian sailboat racing team.

Panerai has chosen to update their much-loved Submersible collection with the introduction of a new, more eco-friendly material, eSteel. 72gs of each watch in the collection are composed entirely of recycled materials. This progress proves Panerai’s dedication to upholding their sustainability mission while maintaining the brand’s established design ethos and technical craftsmanship.

This release also marks the first use of polished, glossy ceramic in Panerai’s QuarantaQuattro watches. Additionally, whereas previous releases in the Submersible collection were only available in 42mm or 47mm, these 44mm diameter editions are distinctive and comfortable.

The Submersible line is characterized by the watches’ unidirectional rotating bezel, nautical finesse – all submersible watches are water resistant up to 300m – and sport durable, sustainably-sourced steel cases. However, three editions of the timepiece are taking to the stage, each with their own unique colorway and style.

Diving in with supremely seaworthy style, the Submersible QuarantaQuattro eSteel Blu Profondo showcases a particularly thalassic approach, with its navy and white color scheme. Following the Blu Profondo variant is the Submersible QuarantaQuattro Verde Smeraldo (featuring a green polished dial and bezel). Topping off the trifecta of new releases is the Submersible QuarantaQuattro Grigio Roccia, with its gray polished gradient dial and bezel.

Last, but certainly not least, is Panerai’s Submersible QuarantaQuattro Luna Rossa. While this unit is not part of the eSteel collection, it was also unveiled at Watches and Wonders 2022. The model features a red, white, and blue color scheme and a neutral case back. The capable timepiece is even equipped with a bezel made for tracking dive time, so the team can stay on top of their game. At 6’clock, Luna Rosa’s logo is featured, marking the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Team’s partnership with Panerai.

Each of Panerai’s new releases are set into motion by the meticulous, automatic Panerai Caliber P.900, equipped with a three-day power reserve, and feature white Super-LumiNova detailing. All three new eSteel Submersible watches feature recycled PET or rubber materials, and support reduced waste practices.

The Submersible QuarantaQuattro eSteel Collection are priced at CHF 10,900  ($11,693 USD) and the Submersible QuarantaQuattro Luna Rossa comes in just under at CHF 9,300 ($9,900 USD) and are available online or in store at Panerai boutiques.
